Questions

A few things you may want to know.

Is Daily Shift free?+

No. Daily Shift will be a reader-supported publication available for a modest annual subscription. Joining the launch list is free. You will be told the price and asked whether you would like to subscribe before any payment is taken.

Why create a Founding Circle?+

Because thoughtful independent publishing takes time. The Founding Circle creates the space to establish Daily Shift carefully during its first year, without relying on advertising or commercial sponsorship.

Why 365 people?+

Because Daily Shift is built around one observation each day. One person for every day of the year felt like the right way to establish it. Once all 365 places have been taken, the Founding Circle will close permanently.

What will I receive as a founding member?+

You will receive Daily Shift from the very beginning, before the public edition opens. You will also receive occasional notes about how the publication is developing during its first year, together with any benefits included at your chosen contribution level.

Will founding members receive a different Daily Shift?+

No. Everyone will receive the same Daily Shift. The Founding Circle is not designed to create different levels of editorial access. It exists to help establish and support the publication.

Why are there different contribution levels?+

Every level provides the same Daily Shift. The contribution levels reflect how much each person would like to put towards establishing the publication. Some levels also include additional acknowledgements or benefits, which will be clearly described before you join. Founding Patrons will receive a signed copy of the first annual register once it is published.

Will my name appear publicly?+

Only if you would like it to. Founding Circle members will be able to choose whether they are acknowledged as part of Daily Shift's first year or remain anonymous.

What happens after the first year?+

Daily Shift will continue, but the Founding Circle will not reopen. Founding members will continue receiving Daily Shift without paying the standard annual subscription.

Is this a newsletter?+

Technically, it arrives by email. But Daily Shift is conceived as a daily editorial publication rather than a conventional newsletter. It is not designed to summarise the news or keep you continually updated. It offers one observation, one reflection and one question before the rest of the day demands your attention.

Will Daily Shift be available on WhatsApp or as an app?+

Possibly. Daily Shift will begin by email, but we are exploring other ways to make it part of the day, including WhatsApp and a dedicated app. Any new format would need to preserve what matters most: one observation, one reflection and one question, delivered without noise or distraction. Founding Circle members will be among the first to hear as those options develop.

Why are you doing this?+

For six years, I have been recording these observations without knowing whether anyone else would ever read them. Daily Shift is the decision to stop keeping them to myself.
